Use steel wool packed with expanding foam for the best results — rodents can’t gnaw through it.
2. Check and Repair Your Roof Line
Damaged fascia boards, loose roof tiles, and gaps around soffit vents are motorways for rats into your loft. Inspect your roofline from ground level with binoculars and arrange repairs for any visible damage.
3. Manage Your Garden and Bins
Overgrown gardens, compost heaps close to the house, and overflowing wheelie bins are magnets for rodents. Keep vegetation trimmed back from walls, move compost bins to the end of the garden, and ensure bin lids close properly.
4. Store Food Properly
Transfer dry goods (cereals, rice, pasta, pet food) into sealed glass or metal containers. Cardboard and plastic bags are no barrier to a determined mouse or rat. Don’t leave pet food bowls out overnight.
